Presents
Cultural Collision: Latino Artists in Philadelphia
Exhibition Dates: August 31 through September 24, 2008
This exhibit will feature Philadelphia area artists who have Latin-American origins either through birth or heritage, and whose work reflects Latin-American artistic traditions either in general style or content. The juror will interpret these parameters broadly in an attempt to exhibit artists from as many different Latin-American countries and cultural traditions as possible and to illustrate their continuing influence on contemporary American art. Gallery hours at the Philadelphia Sketch Club, 235 S. Camac St., are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 1 to 5 PM. The opening reception for the exhibition is on Sunday, August 31, from 2 to 5 PM. Special events during the exhibition include Tertulia on the evening of Friday, September 5 (time TBA) and Milogna , Friday, September 19, 9 PM to 1:30 AM. An image of one of the works in this exhibition is attached.
Founded in 1860, the Sketch Club is America 's oldest artists club. In 2007 he was curator of an exhibit of Latin-American Artists for the Two Penn Center Building in Philadelphia .
Running concurrent with this exhibition in the Sketch Club's first floor gallery is an exhibition of photographs by Stephen M. Kane entitled BARE natural light nudes.
