The exhibition 150 YEARS & MORE: Celebrating the Philadelphia Sketch foretells of the many events that will occur in 2010 to help celebrate the 150 th anniversary year of America 's oldest artists club. The exhibition with show the strengths of notable artists and Sketch Club members such as Thomas Eakins, N. C. Wyeth, Thomas Moran, Daniel Garber, Walter Baum, A. B. Frost and a host of other accomplished past and current members. Over one hundred and twenty work of art will be on display throughout the Club's historic site. But the exhibition isn't the story; it is merely a backdrop to the announcements of the collaborative exhibitions and events that will help tell the 150 year story of the Philadelphia Sketch Club. After all, 150 years of deeds by two-thousand artists can't be capsuled into one event.
The exhibition will open with a ticketed, gala celebration on November 7, 2009 and will remain on view thereafter on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 PM through December 13, 2009. A historically oriented catalogue will be available to support the exhibition.
Also available will be a brochure which will present a summary of the future exhibitions at other venues throughout 2010. The exhibitions will be held at the National Constitution Center , Philadelphia Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Brandywine River Museum , James A. Michener Art Museum, Woodmere Art Museum, Philip and Muriel Berman Museum, Philadelphia History Museum at Atwater Kent, Free Library of Philadelphia, Athenaeum of Philadelphia, Society of Illustrators – NY, Philadelphia City Hall, Newman Galleries, The Cosmopolitan Club and Markeim Arts Center.
